It lived up to expectations.
In what can be described as the best PPV event since WrestleMania 28, "Money in the Bank" was everything it needed to be.
And we can thank CM Punk and Daniel Bryan for what was possibly the match of the year.
And we can also thank A.J. Lee for helping to make that happen.
While we all expected something to go wrong with the WWE Title Match, everything fell into place and left the door open to ask, "What happens now?"
And oh yeah, some guy named Cena won Money in the Bank along with Dolph Ziggler.
Here are some things we learned from tonight's PPV.
R-Truth and Kofi Kingston Need Better Competition
While Hunico and Camacho are good wrestlers and a big part of the growing tag team division, the WWE Tag Team champions are still head and shoulders above the crowd.
And they need stiffer competition.
What will happen when they face other tag teams in the division? Can anyone measure up?
I liked the opening match, but it was short and some of the moves missed.
Still, you have to like the way the WWE uses YouTube to market its product. It was still a good match to kick things off for the evening.
The World Title Ladder Match Was a Great Way to Open the PPV
No matter how you look at it, this was certainly the way to go.
I thought this was going to be the best match of the night and hoped it would be the second to last match of the night, but it was fitting to start things off.
It started with an introduction of Dolph Ziggler and got better as the match went on.
The WWE got it right in picking the right match to get everything going.
We Need to See More Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes
Seeing the two of them against each other in the match and work together. It is a great matchup.
Although Vickie Guerrero should never have been in the match, she is an element that cannot be ignored.
If the two ever feud over a title, it will be pure magic.
Ziggler Is Money
I predicted that Ziggler would win the match, and now we have to wait and see when he will cash in his opportunity.
It also remains to be seen what happens with his character. Will he keep Vickie Guerrero as his manager or will he find others (Ric Flair) to help him achieve gold.
Remember, he has one year to cash this in and Flair has not signed with the WWE yet, so does the WWE have plans to keep the briefcase in his hand for a while?
We will have to wait and see.
The Miz Picks Up Where He Left Things
And now, he announces that he is competing in the WWE Title Ladder Match.
AWESOME!
What a great way to repackage him as a key player in the company.
Plus, this also allows him to tout himself in the most recent Marine movie.
Again, the WWE got it right.
Still No Jim Ross
While I like listening to the trio of Lawler, Cole and Booker T, there is something soothing about Jim Ross behind the mic.
Sooner or later, he will return and hopefully that will be at Raw's 1,000th episode.
There is nothing better and no one is better at calling a match than Ross, especially in a situation where a title or an event is on the line.
He is one for the ages.
A Better Match Than I Thought It Would Be
Alberto Del Rio looked better and performed at a high level.
He looked like a champion.
So much has been made of his recent injuries. But toned, tanned and in rare form.
While Sheamus and Del Rio was not Sheamus and Daniel Bryan, there was a heightened drama to the match which made it better than it should have been.
Sheamus vs. Tensai Would Be Awesome
Just putting it out there.
While there will be other feuds the WWE will focus on, it is almost a guarantee that the two big men would beat the hell out of each other.
And would give the WWE a program for Tensai that would finally work.
Prime Time Makes an Appearance
A.W. will bring these guys a tag team title.
I said I thought A.W. would become the best manager in the WWE and I still stand behind that.
It will be interesting to see how the WWE plans to market the tag team division with these two guys going after Kofi Kingston and R-Truth for the tag titles.
And by the way, I'd love to see Booker T manage R-Truth and Kofi Kingston.
Too bad all the talk by A.W. did not pay off when Epico and Primo won the match.
OMG! WWE Title Match Should Have Been Last
Proving once again that the WWE wants John Cena in the final match of every show ever seen, the WWE Title does not get top billing.
What in the blue hell is going on with the WWE?
This match has two of the best stars in the business in it and is for the company's title. It should be more important than any other match and both competitors should be regarded as the best of the bunch.
I guess the WWE does not see it that way.
It's Better Than Flair/Steamboat
Watching both Punk and Bryan in a match is ballet and poetry.
The moves may be the same, but I don't think I have ever seen two guys who sell better for each other than these two.
I have seen thousands of matches and know what works and doesn't work. If Bret Hart and Ricky Steamboat or Ricky Steamboat and HBK had battled in yesteryear, this is what it would have looked like.
Bravo.
The Fly in the Ointment
You knew at some point A.J Lee would affect the title match in some way.
I did not figure her getting bumped off the apron would be the change in the match.
And when she returned, she was just as crazy as before. The introduction of the chair was genius and odd at the same time.
What a devious smile.
Then the disturbing action. It took away from the "match" and in the end, actually enhanced it.
Match of the Year
So far, it is the best match we have seen this year.
And even with the possibilities of A.J. making it a mockery, it was amazing.
It seems as though A.J. wanted to be more involved, maybe hoping Daniel Bryan would win.
Her whole look said it all after the match.
And in the end, Punk won, and did not care who counted Bryan's shoulders down.
And A.J. is still lost.
And Now the Ryback Portion of the Program
Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins should have been a bigger challenge for the beast.
Next, please.
Cena Wins!
Could we see Cena vs. Punk at Raw's 1,000th Episode?
That would be worth its weight in gold.
While the match was not the best, the outcome was predictable. But it was still good for the WWE.
While Cena has been the whipping boy of the WWE as of late, this was a match he needed to win and one the WWE needed him to have.
It sets up a lot of possibilities for the summer.
And SummerSlam is now on the horizon.
