Because of a strange TV schedule dilemma, the "2012 Teen Choice Awards" on FOX goes head-to-head with the season finale of "The Bachelorette" on ABC on Sunday night. While the viewing audience may be a bit different, there's no denying that the two shows have overlapping fans.
The "2012 Teen Choice Awards" airs live tonight from 8-10 p.m. ET (PT tape delayed) on FOX. The teen fest features live performances by Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Flo Rida, No Doubt and DJ Pauly D. Participants include Miley Cyrus, Zooey Deschenel, Ellen DeGeneres, Jason Derulo, Zac Efron, Josh Hutcherson, Lea Michelle, Sophia Grace and Rosie, and Taylor Swift.
The young stars are all a-Twitter about tonight's Teen Choice Awards. Justin Bieber tweeted on July 21, "Tomorrow. Teen Choice Awards on FOX. Watch." One fan replied, "In 2009, Justin wasn't even invited to the Teen Choice Awards, and now 3 years later he's nominated for 8 awards. Good luck. We love you." Sophia Grace tweeted on July 22, "I'm so excited for the Teen Choice Awards today. Thanks for your votes and support." On Sunday, Pauly D from "Jersey Shore" posted on Twitter, "Catch me tonight! Make sure U catch the show live on Fox! Yeahhhh Buddyyy!"
In the TV category, "The Vampire Diaries" and "American Idol" lead the pack with six and five nominations respectively. In the reality competition category, "Idol" faces off with "America's Next Top Model," "Survivor: One World," "The Voice," and "The X Factor." In the reality TV category, "Dance Moms," "Jersey Shore," ""Keeping Up with the Kardashians," "Punk'd," and "Tia & Tamera" are all nominated.
Over on competing network ABC, executives are hoping for a big ratings night with the season finale of "The Bachelorette" and "After The Final Rose." In an unusual programming move, ABC moved the finale from Monday to Sunday night, which puts it in direct competition with "The 2012 Teen Choice Awards." Fans who want to watch both will have to reply on TiVo. Fan Rachel Howard tweeted on July 22, "Wait! The Bachelorette finale and Teen Choice Awards on at the same time tonight??? Are you serious?" ABC tweeted earlier on Sunday, "Watch for major drama tonight and a shocking conclusion." Host Chris Harrison also hopped on Twitter today and posted, "This is going to be a great night."
"The Bachelorette" concludes tonight when Emily Maynard chooses between her two remaining suitors, Arie Luyendyk and Jef Holm. However, the finale doesn't look like smooth sailing, according to ABC previews. Emily is seen crying, tormented by her choice. "I'm so confused. I don't know where my heart is anymore," she laments. The preview even hints that Bachelorette Emily may decide to fly solo. According to a poll on "The Bachelorette" website, 47% of voters think Emily will choose Jef, 30% think Arie will receive the final rose, 19% think she'll pick neither, and 4% can't decide who she will choose.
The season finale of "The Bachelorette" airs at 8/7c on Sunday, July 22. "The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose" will immediately follow the finale at 10/9c. For die hard fans of "The Bachelorette," ABC announced on July 20 that it would air a special installment of "The Bachelorette" called "After Party" on ABC.com from 10:05-11:00 p.m. ET.
