Summer solstice: Dog days arrive - Washington Post

At 6:30 a.m., the temperature was already 75 degrees on the first day of summer in the Washington area, as runners and bikers took to the Mount Vernon Trail in Arlington, Va. Arlington resident Jane Campbell, not pictured, who runs the trail daily, said, "I'm out here at 6:30 in the morning because I don't want to be out here at noon, when it's going to be in the 90s. It may be warm with a little bit of humidity, but it beats midday heat."

Participants take part in a mass yoga class to mark the summer solstice in New York's Times Square. Thousands of yogis gathered on Times Square for the event, which featured four free yoga sessions in celebration of the longest period of daylight of the year.
